District 14 Newsletters
Service the Write Way!
The District 14 Newsletter needs your contributions.
Your reflections on turning "hurting into hope" can help others.
Are you looking for an opportunity to share your experience, strength, and hope with the wider District 14 community of recovery? Then contributing to the District 14 Newsletter is right up your alley!
We're looking for any recovery-related content that you would like to submit. Please send your writings on any Al-Anon related topic.
- Some suggestions:
- Your work on a Step, Tradition, or Concept
- A theme of recovery (surrender, humility, faith, hope, etc.)
- How Al-Anon has affected your life with your family/work/community
- You experiences with a sponsor or being in a service position
- Slogans that have helped you (One Day at a Time, Easy Does It, Let Go and Let God, etc.)
- Whatever is on your mind and in your heart related to recovery
Each new edition contains one article on recovery submitted by an Al-Anon member in the “Recovery in Our Own Words” section. Plus there will be a section called “Heard At a Meeting”—ideal for very brief and even humorous submissions, something interesting you actually heard at a meeting (with the speaker’s permission and keeping anonymity in mind!). Thank you for your interest.
How to submit an article Simply email your article to email@example.com or hand it to your Group Representative.
Deadline Because the newsletter is published mid-month each month, all articles for each month's newsletter must be submitted in final form by the 1st Wednesday of each month. New or revised articles arriving after the cutoff date will be included in a future issue. The deadline is especially important if you are submitting an article that is time sensitive. For example, if you want to submit an article about the Sixth Step and would like it to appear in the June issue, we would need the article with final revisions no later than the first Wednesday in June.
Format The District 14 Newsletter is a monthly publication (one printed copy will be given to each group; when printed out it will consist of 3-6 pages) produced online via Constant Contact but entirely created and edited by your District 14 Newsletter Coordinator and Alternate Newsletter Coordinator. There is no limit on the number of articles you may submit, but depending on the available space/number of submissions, the editors may only publish one of your articles or we may be forced to delay publication until a following month.
Length of Articles Submissions should be a maximum of 200-250 words. We will attempt to notify you if fitting a longer article into the newsletter is a concern.
Editing The editors reserve the right to correct grammar and reduce the length of your article, but we will not add to your article nor change the intent or meaning. We will send you the edited copy for your final approval prior to publication.
Credit We will publish your article(s) with a "by-line" consisting of your first name and last initial. If you wish to have your article published as "Anonymous", please let us know at the time of submission.
Permission and Copyright By submitting your article, you are giving Al-Anon District 14 non- exclusive permission to use your submission in any print and/or electronic publications of the District. We will keep your permission "on the books" so if we need to re-run your submission sometime in the future, we'll be able to do so. You maintain copyright of your own works.
To avoid potential copyright issues, please only submit your original writing.
